April 15th Is Here!!

Months of working 7-day weeks and 12+ hour days have culminated in today - Wednesday, April 15th, 2009. The DC Court of Appeals had officially been turned-over to her Owner. Monday we submitted our paperwork to the city and received our Certificate of Occupancy - a milestone that dictated whether HP completed construction on time. Yesterday, the big bosses (the Owner and our district VPs) walked the site and determined that we have also met the requirements for "substantial completion" - contract terminology that defines whether the building is usable for the occupant and the amount to which HPCC can be paid for its work thusfar. Confirmed today in the letter below, we were awarded substantial completion a day early: April 14th, 2009. The Courts team and Hensel Phelps are thrilled with our accomplishments!! We will properly be getting our drink-on later this week .. possibly [and hopefully] starting tonight :p

This afternoon is the re-dedication ceremony for the Lincoln statue seen at the top of this post. The History of Judiciary Square relates: "Within days of Lincoln's assassination on April 15,1865, Washington residents began a subscription to raise money for a memorial to the president. Sculpted by Lott Flannery, the Abraham Lincoln Statue was erected on a 35-foot-high column in the center of what was then D Street in front of the Old D.C. Courthouse. The statue, the first public monument to Lincoln, was dedicated on the third anniversary of his assassination."

Well, now I can try and focus on my move! In 4 (yes 1-2-3-4) days I'll be living in a new state - California!

~~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE~~~~~~~~~~~~
We thoroughly enjoyed some celebrating last night :) After a few hours at Gordon Biersh, a few of us enjoyed a frolicking through the finished building! (Shout-outs to: Nate, Nick, Steve, me and Jeff!)
